As a runner who also worries a bit about my weight, and who has a rather busy life, I am often on the lookout for easy ways to fuel myself. I like to focus on higher carbohydrate meals on days that I am running and focus on high protein items on my days off or on days that I lift weights. One great way for me to do that is to incorporate things like frozen high protein entrees and snacks into my daily routine on specific days. Here is how I do it.
High Protein Entrees and Snacks on Rest or Weight Lifting Days
Right now, I run about 5 days per week, with two long runs and several easy runs. I also strength train a couple of days per week. On my days off, or on days that I lift weights, I focus on high protein meals to help rebuild muscle but I also look for items that are not crazy high in calories. When cooking, I focus of things like chicken or salmon and fresh veggies. But, when busy or for lunches, I look for easy to carry snacks and frozen high protein entrees, such as STOUFFER’S FIT KITCHEN Teriyaki Chicken.
Frozen high protein entrees are perfect for when you are busy or need something like an easily portable lunch. For example, I like to pack up my lunch kit for work with a high protein frozen entree, some high protein snacks, and some fruits and vegetables.
Some great snacks to include are mixed nuts, pistachios, meat slices, such a summer sausage or pepperoni, and cheese. I will often pack some cottage cheese for breakfast with a bit of fruit like pineapple. I might toss in an apple and some carrots as well. High protein for me does not mean having no carbs or super low carbs. I do like to include fruits and vegetables and healthy whole grains.
One of my new favorites to include for lunch or for an easy dinner is the STOUFFER’S FIT KITCHEN Teriyaki Chicken. This frozen entree has 24g protein, no artificial flavors, and is made with tender white meat chicken with brown rice and vegetables in a savory and quite tasty Teriyaki sauce. I like that it incorporates brown rice for whole grains instead of white rice.
The bowl is super easy to prepare. Simply pop it in the microwave without even needing to vent the film covering it. Microwave for four minutes, stir, microwave for two more, let rest for a minute, and then enjoy! It is perfect for my workday lunches.
Higher Carb Entrees on Running, Lifting, or Exercise Days
On days that I run long or do particularity hard exercise, I focus on higher carbohydrate meals and snacks to help fuel the increase in exercise. A great example of a frozen entree for this is the LEAN CUISINE Five Cheese Rigatoni. This also happens to be meatless, for those who avoid meat. This entree has no artificial preservatives and is made with freshly made Rigatoni pasta in a sweet tomato sauce topped with a five cheese blend. I love pasta, so I rather look forward to my heavy exercise days when I let myself indulge in it. But this also is not a particularly worrisome indulgence because it is from LEAN CUISINE, so it is not crazy high in calories. It is simply good food to fuel my workout!
For snacks on my higher carb days, I like to include higher carbohydrate fruit such as bananas and blueberries, and I might have something like avocado whole wheat toast for breakfast. The idea is to keep eating healthy while adding a bit more carbohydrate for fuel.
Overall, STOUFFER’S FIT KITCHEN and LEAN CUISINE entrees fit perfectly with my active lifestyle and help me meet my fitness goals without a lot of fuss. Plus, shopping for them is easy. I got mine as part of my Walmart Online Grocery order! You just place your order online, choose a pickup time, and then go to the store pickup area and get your groceries curbside.
You can buy these entrees in the store at Walmart too, but it is so easy to get these with their Online Grocery service. So, what are you waiting for? Get shopping!

I love frozen meals if only for the fact that they have precise nutrition information.
24g of protein in a frozen meal is pretty good! I may need to grab some of these for those days when you’re just too busy or tired to make a meal
These make bringing lunch to work so much easier. No guessing games involved.
These look really good. I looked these ones up on my Weight Watchers App and found a few other flavors that have lower point value….Cajun style chicken is on my shopping list now!
I LOVE Lean Cuisine. I went through a huge phase of eating them and I still grab them from time to time because my schedule has been insane lately.
Ooo they sound good, I wonder if they are MSG free!
Lean Cuisine has a number of good options, especially considering my husband and I both hate cooking.
I love their Fit Bowls!!! So tasty and well balanced. Perfect lunch on rushed days.
Yep exercise for a healthy body and then fill it with chemicals…
Both Fit Kitchen and Lean Cuisine have pretty clean ingredient profiles. I tend to go to them for frozen entrees because of that.
