Enjoy these healthy fresh fish tacos without resorting to frying or firing up the grill. The broiler does an excellent job of turning out juicy fish with a flavorful crust.
Ingredients
- 2 Hass avocados, pitted and peeled
- ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (low fat)
- 2 tablespoons minced jalapenos, or to taste
- 2 tablespoons minced red onions
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 5 tablespoons fresh lime juice, divided use
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- Pinch black pepper
- 2 cups shredded Napa cabbage
- 2 cups shredded fresh red cabbage
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for brushing
- 1½ pounds thick red snapper fillets, skin on
- 8 flour tortillas, warmed
- 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced (or ½ cup salsa)
- Hot pepper sauce, for serving
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
Instructions
- Preheat the broiler to medium high. Spray a broiler pan lightly with cooking spray.
- To make the lime guacamole, mash the avocados, yogurt, jalapeño, red onion, cilantro, and 3 tablespoons of the lime juice together to make a coarse paste (it should not be extremely smooth). Season the guacamole with half of the salt and pepper. (If made in advance, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to keep it bright green.)
- To make the slaw, toss together the cabbages with 2 tablespoons oil and the remaining 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Season with pepper. Set aside.
- Place the fish on the broiler pan and brush lightly with oil. Season with the remaining salt and a pinch of pepper. Broil until the fish is cooked through and lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Transfer the fish to a platter and pull off the skin. Flake the fish into pieces.
- Divide the fish evenly among the tortillas, top with the slaw, guacamole, and tomatoes. Serve at once accompanied with hot sauce and lime wedges.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. -Maimonides (fish quote)

Picture does not show napa or red cabbage and no tomatoes either.
Photo is a stock photo that used lettuce because this was reader submitted, but using cabbage is traditional/preferred.
